Stone Mountain Park Georgia

Stone Mountain State Memorial Park

Just 15 miles outside Atlanta is Stone Mountain. Its 825 foot tall dome is stunning to the first time viewer. On the face of the mountain is a 90 foot tall bas-relief carving of Jefferson Davis, General Stonewall Jackson, and General Robert E. Lee. The carving was designed by Gutzon Borglum, the designer of the carving on Mount Rushmore, and is the largest bas-relief in the world. During the summer months, the Park's visitors can watch the laser show projected on the mountain's side.

Other activities at Stone Mountain include hiking the mountain to its top where you can see for miles around, camping, fishing, and wildlife trails for the rugged adventure seeker. For those who like to take thing at a slower pace, there is a top rated golf course, tennis courts, and a paddlewheel Riverboat. Facilities include the antebellum plantation, an antique auto and music museum, an inn, a conference center, the Thornton House which was moved to Stone Mountain from Union Point, as well as 18 other authentic buildings moved
and assembled on the park grounds.
