St. Simons Island Visitors Guide

The historic town has been under 5 flags-Spain, France, Britain, the Confederate States of America and the US. It is known today for beautiful beaches, golfing, and dolphin appearances. You will also enjoy shopping and fine food.

Things to Do on St. Simons Island

Gascoigne Bluff - named for HMS Hawk’s captain, James Gascoigne, the bridge here crosses the Frederica River. There is a marina open here as well.

St. Simon’s Lighthouse - The 1810, 75 foot high lighthouse was replaced in 1861 and is now 104 feet high—feel free to climb to its peak.

Bloody Marsh Battle Site NPS -The site of the 1742 British defeat of the Spanish troops headed toward Ft. Frederica

Ft. Frederica National Monument -Built by Gen. James Oglethorpe in 1736
