Monticello, GA is a nice little town far enough away from Atlanta to retain all of its Southern charm, while still being close enough to the modern world to resist the evils of the past. This town often confuses people when the locals pronounce it MontiSELLO, yet it was named after Thomas Jefferson’s home that is pronounced like chello. Even the City of Monticello’s website acknowledges that the city was named after Jefferson’s home, but they still continue to mispronounce the name.
