Callaway Gardens

Established in 1952 by Cason J. and Virginia Hand Callaway, The Gardens has been a favorite place to visit for decades. It offers a plethora of activities and attractions ranging from viewing the gardens, exploring flower-lined nature trails, fine dining at the Mountain Creek Inn or casual fare at the Rockin’ Robin, bike trails, golfing, the renowned Florida State University “Flying High” Circus, Summer Adventure programs and much more-all sure to delight guest of every age.

When you visit Callaway Gardens, you will want to plan to spend at least a day. However, to fully enjoy the numerous attractions, consider reserving a room at one of the following Callaway locations: Mountain Creek Inn, The Lodge and Spa, or the Villas at Callaway’s. These beautiful locations offer all the amenities of home with many added features to make for a perfect for a luxury getaway.

Things to Enjoy at Callaway Gardens:

There are a variety of gardens to be toured and delighted by at Callaway. Whether it is the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center with its experimental gardens and unique plant varieties, Mr. Cason’s Vegetable Garden that was the location for the southern edition of television’s The Victory Garden, famed Azalea Bowl with its more than 3,400 varieties of azaleas, or the majestic Overlook Garden you are sure to delight in the beauty of nature.

The Ida Cason Memorial Chapel - Designed after the Gothic chapels of the 16th century, the chapel has 6 stained glass windows that show the changing of the seasons. It also houses a Moller pipe organ where you can frequently attend organ concerts. In addition, the Cason Memorial Chapel is a favorite location for Georgia weddings.

Hiking- There is over 8 miles of walking trails throughout Callaway Gardens, ranging in distance from the .5 mile Laurel Springs Trail to the 1.6 mile Overlook Azalea Trail. And, if biking is more your speed, be sure to check out the 10 mile Discovery Bicycle Trail.

Golfing- Callaway Garden’s Mountain View course is ranked as one of the best greens in America. It hosted the PGA Tour’s Buick Challenge for over 10 years.  Come enjoy the beauty of nature awhile you play a few rounds.

The Birds of Prey- This show allows you to learn about the magnificent feather friends that live around us. The birds are seen in a lakeside amphitheatre and will show-off a variety of their survival skills. An educator/trainer will explain the habit of these powerful birds and answer any of your questions.

The Butterfly Center- Learn more about these delicate creatures as you gaze in awe at their beautiful surroundings. As butterflies are attracted to bright flowers and tropical plants, the Center is resplendent in color. And, if you stand still, you may even become a landing site for some of the 50 species of butterflies.  Along with the butterflies, you will also see many unique varieties of birds from tropical locations around the world.  The Center also boasts beautiful works of art and a gift shop.

Seasonal events-Callaway Gardens is the sight of several seasonal activities. During the summer there are the amazing feats of the Florida State University “Flying High” Circus; the Fantasy in Lights which can be seen during the Christmas Season, the Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival and the many water sports which can be enjoyed at Robin Lake Beach.
